Happy 2015! To start off the year, I’m sharing some images from Hondarribia, a quintessential Basque town near the French border that I went to awhile ago and never got around to posting. I was there for just a few hours; enough to walk around the Butrón boardwalk, grab a seafood lunch in the lively and colorful Marina neighborhood and unexpectedly witness Joaldunak for the first time.

Joaldunak are the men pictured above with the cowbells on their back. They noisily clank and clamber through town to announce the arrival of the annual fiestas, which take place in early September. Definitely beats traditional advertising!

In the past couple of years I’ve lived here, I’ve found that it’s not out of the norm to turn around a corner and stumble upon a celebration of Basque culture and/or language. This is certainly one part of the world very unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been, and they truly have such rich traditions and plenty of reason to celebrate.

I am currently working as an editorial assistant at SUITCASE Magazine and stumbled across your blog.

We would love to work with you and wanted to know if you have any series/collections of photos which we could use as a photo diary (taken in same place/ which have a theme) it would be great if you could send them over. Please see an example of a recent photo diary here: http://suitcasemag.com/2014/12/02/sri-lanka-tuk-tuk-photo-diary/

We will be featuring the places in the list below so if you have photos taken in any of these places we would be interested in seeing them too.

    Best,
